Operations Viability Team

IT Operations have become a crucial part of coporate value chains: in many cases their well functioning conributes considerably to a company's success, in other cases ill-functioning IT operations seriously distrurb daily business, at the least.

Consequently, companies have growing expectations with regard to IT landscapes:

  • The implementation and regular audit of IT strategies/-governance.
  • The understanding of cost drivers and corresponding counter action
  • Cost reduction and improved quality at the same time
  • The possibility to react quickly to structural changes
  • Independent and sustainable IT systems

The historic development of structures, reduced resources for education, the wrong choice of cooperation partners or simply profound structural changes - all of these are reasons why companies fail to live up to one or more of these expectations.

To help clients meet today's IT system requirements aicooma has set up an Operation Viability Team (OVT), with a three phase approach.

The OVT's task is to secure the well functioning of IT operations (Phase 1 - Safety), to implement long-term corrective measures (Phase 2 - Change) and to hand back responsibiity over the secured and improved Operations to client staff (Phase 3 - Take Off)

Phase 1

In Phase 2 specially trained aicooma employees, equipped with sufficient experience and know-how, are introduced to certain management positions of the existing team for an interm period. Their objective is to stabilize operations screen important contracts, review people management issues, evaluate alternative budgets and, if possible, document the current processes/system.

Phase 2

In Phase 2 all strategic and technical possibilities for change are analysed from a vendor-neutral, technical, organizational and business perspective (360°). Subsequently, decisions are taken and change projects are set-up and implemented in cooperation with the client company.

Note however that changing an operations department is a tedious, timetaking, partly cultural process, which cannot be completed from one day to the next.

e.g. a renowned ISP has benefited from this approach: the aicooma OVT came in and built up a 24x6 operations center in a month's time installed an interm managment, secured operations and accompanied the realignment project parallel tp daily operations.

Phase 3

Once the mission is successfull and complete the OVT takes off again (Phase 3  Take off). Upon a short period of stabilization (Phase 1) followed by a ohase of realignment (Phase 2) comes a phase of know-how transger to perpare take off and return IT-Operations into the hands of the client. (Naturally, these phases will overlap in practice)
